Outside of Gaming, what's your passion?

I think a lot of us got here because of the Legends of Zork card at Game Stop. Some got here because they loved the original version(s) of Zork. And some just got lucky and found this game. So we've clearly all got computer gaming of whatever stripe in common.

But what (outside of gaming) are your hobbies / passions?

I'll get the ball rolling -

#1 is my family - I have a 6 yr old girl and an 8 yr old boy and a very happy marriage. We try to share our joys as much as we can: gardening, cooking, hiking, swimming, and reading are things we all enjoy together.

#2 is combat sport - that means "fighting" to some people. I practice Submission Grappling, boxing, Muay Thai, and Jeet Kun Do. Been doing martial arts for years.

#3 is my car. I love my Mini Cooper. The kids (and I) call it the "super cool awesome-mobile". It's not a race car, but it's fun to drive, clean as a whistle, and has every neato gadget known to mankind. 36 mpg ain't bad either.

That's a little on me. Who's next?

I am semi active in my church, I have one niece and one nephew, I watch them a lot. other than work that i don't like anymore, I like reading, coloring, swimming, leaning weird things.

Getting to know each other through things like this is good.

#1 My family same as Kestrel, except my family consists of my fiancee and my best friend and his wife.

#2 Trading card games, mostly Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh. I've tried every commercial TCG on the market and am also well versed in all tabletop card games and have been kicked out of two casinos for counting cards in blackjack. I am also very fond of the games Apples to Apples and Fluxx. So number two is pretty much anything that has to do with slips of cardboard.

P.S. The Harry Potter TCG sucked.

#3 Evaluating my philosophy on life based on the current conditions of the world. This is best seen by revisiting my three favorite cards games. Fluxx with it's ever evolving and de-evolving rule scheme, and my Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh decks are both chaos incarnate. This also extends to the way I act. All of my mannerisms have evolved from my views of the chaos in the world, and I'm a really nice person as a counterbalance to that.

Geh, that last one was a mouthful.

It would be nice if there was an online version of apples to apples. I think it would be fun to play as a clan.

I've built a nice bank of cards for my son to play Pokemon. He's only 8 but puts together some pretty good decks. Not ready for MTG or YiGiOh yet, but it won't be long. He's into Connect 4x4 lately and Monopoly. And Wii games. A little version of me. We tried Bakugan but it really sucks. I'll have to check out apples to apples and fluxx. Not familiar with them.

Check out Looney Labs, the small company that makes Fluxx. All of their games are quite awesome.

Outside of gaming I'm a student of medicine, liberal arts, and religion and folklore from around the world.

Locally I'm an active volunteer in local service workers' association (kind of like a labor union, but a non-government organizations).

#1 is my family - I have a 10 yr old boy, 2.5 yr old girl, ageless wife, 2 cats, and some sheep.

#2 Been doing Tae Kwon Do martial arts for years (black belt)... Kestrel I can only imagine what you use submission grappling for but this is strictly a PG rated show.

#3 EVE Online - have you tried it?

#4 Eight-ball/Pool/etc.

#5 Miniature steam train owner (5" and 7.25" gauge ride-ons) - love to watch young and old people get a thrill out of going on steam locomotive rides around the parks.

Tried EVE online, but I couldn't get into it before the free trial was up.

Glad to see someone who enjoys martial arts with their gaming. I've been taking Jeet Kune Do lessons for years, but my sword fighting skills developed much quicker...and I'm still a novice at both

#4 Eight-ball/Pool/etc.

Sigh.......I miss the old days...... no room for my own table, and not too many places out there where I'd feel comfortable playing anymore. Before, I'd walk into any old pool hall, whether it be deep in redneck country or in the heart of the blues/jazz areas and fit in at either one. Never had to worry about getting hustled either - I had a partner that took care of all of those dealings

#3 EVE Online - have you tried it?

Tried it; but like Ginzaki, I never really got into it....the in-game economy was way too easy to manipulate.
