You can choose to be a former employee of five Frobozz Company divisions when you start a new character in LoZ:
  • Frobozz Magic Goggles Company
  • Frobozz Magic Cave Company
  • Frobozz Magic Spell Book Company
  • Frobozz Magic Sword Company
  • Frobozz Magic Glove Company
What sets the Spell Book Company characters apart?

There is an exclusive High Magic defensive spell that only Spell Book Company employees get in their spell book. As long you equip this spell, it provides you with a +1 HP advantage. You can NOT get this spell in any other way.

What difference does one extra HP make? Plenty.

When playing PvE, 1 HP does not make much difference for each encounter. When battling a 1 HP NPC with a FWP of 50%, a 7 HP character has an extra 0.78% chance of surviving that encounter over a 6 HP character. (99.22% versus 98.44%) This does accumulate over time battling a series of NPCs and forces the 6 HP character to come back to base more often to heal up and use up extra APs.

The biggest difference comes in PvP Arena battling. Assuming equal amounts of equipment and Fanucci Gambits, we start with a 50% FWP.

Following the BGL Battle Primer, we modify our
  • Combat Attitude Stance,
  • Attack Stance, and
  • Defense Stance
to give us a +9% boost to our FWP. Assuming our worst match up against Low Magic, that sets our FWP back by -3%.

This sets up our worst baseline FWP at 56%.

Here are two examples:

Level 1
  • If you attacked a 6 HP character with a 6 HP character with a 56% FWP, your chances of winning that battle is about 65.86%.
  • If you attacked the same 6 HP character with another 6 HP that had a 58% FWP because of the Faux Elvish Sword or Surprisingly Strong Leather Gloves, you have a 7.44% better chance of winning at 70.76%.
  • If you attack the same 6 HP character with a 7 HP character instead with a 56% FWP, you have a 15.7% better chance of winning at 76.20%.
Level 5
  • Most skilled players have placed all of their skill points in Body Skills that raise their maximum HP; Thick Skin, Brogmoid Hide, Blood Sponge, and Pin Cushion. There is an extra HP to be earned from The Drunk at Port Fozzle, but, most level 5 characters would not have earned the 68,000 zms to purchase that training.
  • If you attacked a 10 HP character with a 10 HP character with a 56% FWP, your chances of winning that battle is about 70.26%.
  • If you attacked the same 10 HP character with another 10 HP that had a 58% FWP, you have a 8.39% better chance of winning at 76.15%.
  • If you attack the same 10 HP character with an 11 HP character instead, you have a 10.4% better chance of winning at 77.58%.
Choose to be from the Frobozz Magic Spell Book Company if you want the best early advantage in the game.
